A New Patio: The Big Reveal! - Part 3

We left on December 26th for a planned vacation, the crew was nearly done but not quite. When we returned on January 1st, we had a gorgeous new patio waiting for us. The Winterbloom crew left our property neat and tidy and also applied a 'sealer' to the paver stones.

Here is the view from the front of the house looking through our breezeway to the back. New pavers are light colored and matched up nicely to the previous project we had done six years ago.

I could hardly believe my eyes; 700 square feet of new stone pavers laid smooth and even. 

 

Notice the curves at the back of the patio, it's almost like a 'heart shape'. Above, the view to the left and below, the view to the right. The picture below is also where we will put our new fire pit with an covered gazebo.

Next, looking from the back left side towards the garage.

Below, there is a half circle shaped flower bed that the rain-chain drains into. We added some colorful rocks that we've collected on our many camping adventures. It was wonderful to finally have the 'perfect' spot for these rocks.

The copper rain-chain really creates a dramatic touch and the sound of rain flowing is quite dreamy.

Additionally, the crew put down cedar chips over the entire length of the trench that was dug for our new water line to the far back yard. 

Our new patio will be used as an 'outdoor room'. It will be a quiet retreat to enjoy a book, or host happy hour with our friends and neighbors. Adding a cover over the fire pit area will allow us to enjoy a fire anytime of year. 

The best compliment I can pay to Winterbloom is that I didn't have to manage a thing. They were professionals and took great care in getting the job done that we agreed to without any need to micromanage on my part. 

We had a couple of bumps in the project (as all projects do) and this is where Winterbloom really showed their professionalism. First, we found our properties old 'cesspool' when the grassy patio was dug up. The crew got the lid off, determined that it had previously been filled up, but had a gap of about 2-3 feet from the fill line to the top (it was probably filled in the 1920's). The foreman consulted with the project manager and we all agreed to fill it up with more gravel. Problem solved. 

The second snag was that upon arriving home from vacation, we noticed our fancy ladder was missing. We called Winterbloom, they quickly inventoried their ladders, found ours mixed in (it was the same brand/model they use) and the next day it was returned. No reminder call necessary.

I cannot express more fully how delighted we are with the final product. It's exciting to think about how a home improvement will look when it's all done, but the reality of living in the middle of a construction zone isn't easy. What a relief to work with installers that got the job done right and in a short amount of time. 

I'm already dreaming up new landscape projects and I know just who to call.
